Brian has been a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®) since 2015. The Project Management Institute's (PMI) PMP certification is considered the world's leading project management certification. It reflects project leadership experience and expertise in any way of working. As of 2022, Brian is on the Board of Directors of PMI's Charleston, SC chapter, as VP of Marketing & Communications. Formed in the year 2000, the Charleston PMI chapter has nearly 500 members.
In 2016 he became a Certified Scrum Master (CSM®) through the Scrum Alliance. This certification designates the Scrum Team member tasked with fostering an effective and productive working environment and guiding others to understand Scrum values, principles and practices.
In 2011 Brian was named a Fellow in the Society for Technical Communication (STC). STC is the world’s oldest professional association dedicated to the advancement of the field of technical communication. The rank of Fellow is conferred upon Associate Fellows who have attained such eminence in the field of technical communication that the Board of Directors, by a two-thirds vote of all members, deems them worthy of being singled out as one of the select few who have distinguished the Society and the profession. Becoming an STC Fellow is a lifelong journey of achievement, an honor bestowed by the Society upon Associate Fellows who have continued to make exemplary contributions to the STC organization and the technical communication profession, who have made good on their promise to make a difference.
Brian was on the Charleston Defense Contractors Association (CDCA) BOD from 2012-2020, which included two years as Treasurer, three years as Secretary, and he led the Small Business and Industry Outreach Initiative (SBIOI) quarterly symposia from 2012-2015. Started in 2001, the CDCA was formally incorporated in South Carolina in December 2002. Its general purpose is to address issues and opportunities facing the Charleston, SC defense community.
Brian was a three-term President of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) South Carolina Low Country Chapter (2009-2012), after having served two terms as Vice President. AFCEA provides a forum for military, government and industry communities to collaborate so that technology and strategy align with the needs of those who serve. It is a member-based, non-profit international organization that has helped members advance information technology, communications and electronics capabilities since 1946.
He was also a member of thc Charleston chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) from 2005-2009. AUSA is a private, non-profit organization that acts primarily as an advocacy group for the United States Army. Founded in 1950, it has 121 chapters worldwide.
